1000FOLD

FOLD#0001 - 01/06/24 - viibra 

FOLD#0001 takes place in the Round Tower (Rundetårn) in Copenhagen and is the first activity of 1000FOLD.

On this occasion 1000FOLD presents a concert program which includes performances by the 3 artists behind 1000FOLD as well as a first performance of Blødgørelser for 7 tværfløjter (Softenings for 7 flutes) composed by Niels Lyhne Løkkegaard for the Icelandic flute ensemble viibra, which premieres the work this evening.

Niels Lyhne Løkkegaard about the work:

"What I want to unfold in the work is an investigation of the flute as a softer place. I would like to soften the idea of ​​the instrument of the flute and the instrument of the human being as being two separate sites, and instead examine this encounter as a softer plasmatic encounter - a meeting between two bodies connected in a kind of entangled osmosis; the flute body and the human body. 

For many years I have worked with creating music for ensembles where everyone plays the same instrument in order to thereby dissolve the notion of individual bodies- creating (more unstable) different forms. Since 2019, I have been in dialogue with viibra about creating a new work for them. Covid came and suddenly it's 2024 - but now it's happening, and I'm very happy about that!"

viibra flute septet is a flute septet based in Iceland, consisting of Berglind María Tómasdóttir, Björg Brjánsdóttir, Dagný Marinósdóttir
Emilía Rós Sigfúsdóttir, Sólveig Magnúsdóttir, Steinunn Vala Pálsdóttir and Berglind Þuríður Jónsdóttir.
viibra was founded in 2016 where they appeared on Björk's album Utopia, and has since become known for their dynamic role in Björk's highly acclaimed theater concert Cornucopia, in which viibra performed from 2018 to 2023. The individual members of viibra are all recognized artists, composers and teachers working with improvisation and diverse approaches to creating music situated in Reykjavík's vibrant creative scene. Their self-titled first album exemplifies their collective creative prowess, inviting friends and collaborators along for the ride. This album will be released during 2024.  Photo above by Anna Maggý.
